Potty Training Your New Puppy: A How-To Guide

Potty Training Your New Puppy A New Guide

Potty training is one of the most important things you can do for your new puppy. Not only does it give you both peace of mind, but it also helps to ensure that your pup grows up to be a well-behaved dog. Fortunately, potty training your puppy doesn’t have to be hard if you know the right steps and techniques. Let’s take a look at how you can potty train your puppy in no time.

Establish a Schedule

The key to successful potty training is consistency. Establishing a regular feeding and potty schedule will not only help you keep track of when your pup needs to go out, but it will also help them learn when they should expect to go out. Generally speaking, puppies need to relieve themselves about every two hours (or more often). So make sure that you are taking them outside at least that often—and after any major activity (like playing or eating) as well.

Set Up an Accident-Free Zone

Accidents are bound to happen—especially in the early days of potty training—so set up an accident-free zone in your house where your pup can go without fear of making a mess. This could be their crate or simply an area with easy-to-clean flooring (like tile). When they’re not being supervised, keep them in this space so that accidents don’t occur elsewhere in the house. This also makes it easier for you to clean up after any messes that do occur quickly and efficiently.

Positive Reinforcement

When your pup does make it outside on time, make sure to reward them with verbal praise or a treat so that they associate good behaviour with positive reinforcement. Eventually, this type of positive reinforcement will help them learn what is expected of them and reinforce good behaviour even when there are no treats available!

Potty training your new puppy may seem daunting at first, but if you stay consistent and use positive reinforcement, it won’t be long before your pup has learned exactly how and when he needs to go outside! With patience and some simple tips like establishing a routine, setting up an accident-free zone, and rewarding good behavior, your pup will soon become the best-trained pooch on the block! Good luck!
