What Not to Feed Your Dog: The 5 Worst Foods for Dogs

When it comes to your pet, you want to make sure that they’re getting the best nutrition possible. Unfortunately, not all human foods are good for our furry companions. In this blog post, we’ll be taking a look at five of the worst items you can feed your dog. It’s important to be aware of these items so that you can make sure your pup is safe and healthy!

Chocolate

We all know how much humans love chocolate; however, it can be very dangerous for our canine pals. Chocolate contains a toxic compound called theobromine which can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, seizures, and even death if consumed in large enough quantities. Be sure to keep all chocolate products away from your pup’s reach!

Grapes and Raisins

Grapes and raisins might seem harmless but they can cause serious health problems in dogs including kidney failure. Even small amounts can lead to severe issues so it is best to avoid giving them grapes or raisins altogether.

Onions and Garlic

Onions and garlic may add flavour to food but they should never be part of your pup’s diet! These ingredients contain disulfides and sulfoxides which can damage red blood cells leading to anaemia. Keep any dishes containing onions or garlic away from Fido!

Xylitol

Xylitol is an artificial sweetener commonly used in many sugar-free products such as gum, baked goods, candy, and some toothpastes. Unfortunately, it is highly toxic for dogs as it causes a sudden drop in their blood sugar levels leading to liver failure. Always read labels carefully before feeding anything containing xylitol to your pooch!

Raw Meat

Raw meat may seem like a natural choice for dogs since they are carnivores; however, uncooked meat can carry harmful bacteria such as salmonella and E. coli which could make them very sick if ingested. Make sure any meat you serve them has been cooked thoroughly first before serving it up!

It’s important to think twice before offering human food items to your pup as some could be potentially hazardous for their health. By being aware of what not to feed dogs – specifically chocolate, grapes/raisins, onions/garlic, xylitol-containing products and raw meat – you can make sure that Fido stays safe and healthy while enjoying tasty treats!
